The African Space Agency launched a logo design competition to find a mark that represents Africa’s growing presence in space exploration and innovation. I participated by developing a logo concept that symbolized unity, progress, and Africa’s role in the future of space technology.
Challenge
Designing a logo for such a prestigious institution required balancing modern design with cultural identity. The challenge was to create a mark that was simple, versatile, and meaningful, while also standing strong in a global context of space agencies.
Takeaways
Strengthened my skills in symbolic and conceptual logo design.
Learned to design for a global audience while maintaining cultural relevance.
Although I didn’t win, the competition pushed me to refine my creative process under real-world constraints.
Process
Research & Analysis: Studied existing space agency logos (NASA, ESA, etc.) to understand design language.
Concept Development: Explored symbols like stars, orbits, satellites, and African motifs.
Sketches & Refinement: Drafted several options, focusing on a design that blended African identity with space exploration.
Final Design Submission: Polished the chosen concept into a professional logo proposal.
Conclusion
This project challenged me to think beyond aesthetics and design a logo that carried cultural weight, futuristic ambition, and global identity. It was an important step in growing my approach to branding at an international scale.
